Incubus (Dâm quỷ) - con quỷ làm tình với phụ nữ đang ngủ, được nhắc đến trong chương 17 Lolita. Đoạn văn dưới đây của chương này có một chỗ chơi chữ khó dịch:

[...]I saw myself administering a powerful sleeping potion to both mother and daughter so as to fondle the latter through the night with perfect impunity. The house was full of Charlotte’s snore, while Lolita hardly breathed in her sleep, as still as a painted girl-child. “Mother, I swear Kenny never even touched me.” “You either lie, Dolores Haze, or it was an incubus.” No, I would not go that far.

So Humbert the Cubus schemed and dreamed—and the red sun of desire and decision (the two things that create a live world) rose higher and higher, while upon a succession of balconies a succession of libertines, sparkling glass in hand, toasted the bliss of past and future nights.[...]

Từ Cubus không có trong tiếng Anh, đó là một từ (như rất nhiều từ khác trong Lolita) do Nabokov tự sáng tạo ra từ danh từ Incubus. Hiểu nghĩa đen thì Cubus là "không phải dâm quỷ"; Humbert the Cubus là Humbert không phải dâm quỷ!

Để giữ được phần nào cách chơi chữ và văn phong châm biếm của Nabokov trong Lolita, tôi tạm dịch: Humbert the Cubus là Humbert Tâm Quỷ.
